Obedience Training gives you an opportunity to learn more about your dog and how to make them a better companion. Using a variety of techniques, your dog will learn to behave in all situations. Your dog will also have an opportunity to socialize with other dogs and people. Our obedience techniques are taught using food rewards and toys as a lure to achieve a positive first experience.
BASIC MANNERS: Six week session teaching obedience for everyday life. Sit, down, stay, no jumping and controlled walking. The exercises are done on leash for maximum success. Dogs must be 18 weeks old and fully inoculated to participate. Family members are encouraged to attend, but one member will do the initial training in the class. Each weekly class is one hour.
Once your dog starts to grasp the behavioral concepts, the treats and toys are gradually reduced and given as rewards. Classes will teach you how to train and communicate with your dog. Each behavior is broken down into small steps to help you and your dog understand what is to be accomplished.
FAMILY DOG: This is an ongoing six week session. Each class will build upon previous skills learned in the Manners Class. Gradually more distractions are added to replicate everyday life and the emphasis will be on individual progress and problem solving. The program will also include appropriate games and introduction to Clicker Training. There will be two classes devoted to your dog's extended family, including children over the age of ten. Each weekly class is one hour.
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN: If your dog has good manners, he or she may be eligible for a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) award from the American Kennel Club. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the CGC test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Click to find out more...
FEISTY FIDO CLASS: (New this year) Does your dog react aggressively towards, or fight with other dogs? Students will practice attention games, distraction techniques, and desensitization using only positive training methods. Canine participants will learn to enjoy class and will develop a happy emotional response to the presence of other dogs. Additionally, your dog will learn appropriate dog-to-dog greeting and play behavior in a carefully supervised and safe environment. This is an intensive class designed for owners who are serious about resolving dog-to-dog aggression issues. If you too are a "midnight walker", there is help in the form of a supportive, fun, and understanding class. Class size is limited and in order to enroll, a private consultation must be scheduled to ensure this is an appropriate class for you and your dog. The class will be co-taught by Ritsa Galitis, CPDT, of Happy Hounds. Please contact us for schedule and further information.
